How I found YOGA.

Philosophy was one of my majors at NUS. Most of the units were taken up already as I was just back from a holiday. So I felt any units available which is interesting enough is alright. That was in 1988. There were many available slots for Asian philosophy. So I thought why not? YOGA and Indian philosophy units were  staring at me. What is THAT?

Hmmm sounded exotic!  During that time Yoga craze had not reached our shores. It would take about another 10 years for yoga ASANAS(postures) to come into my life. Meanwhile, it was theory.

Frankly, I did not understand a single thing I was reading. I was surprised that I actually passed the exams. There were sanskrits and a lot of explanation which to me were so intangible. It took me about 20 years later to appreciate the philosophy behind YOga. I think life experiences do make it easier for you to understand concepts because by then you would have experienced life.

So how did I pass my exams?

I believe there is a technic to passing exams. What I did was to understand the larger concept and try to apply to my life then. Even when I was sitting for the exams, I would say," I catch no ball." But I suppose I was convincing enough that they passed me... haha
